Please join us at the downtown Barking Dog Cafe (near Whole Foods in the city of Sonoma) to phone voters and ask them to pledge to vote for Barbara Boxer, Jerry Brown, and other candidates who will support the changes we voted for in '08. We will also meet to plan for our table at the Mexican Independence Day celebration on Sept. 12 in Sonoma Plaza and phone our local volunteers about upcoming events.

Dem Club Letter to the Editor

Last week Jan Brewer, the Governor of Arizona, signed a bill into law requiring immigrants to carry documents verifying their immigration status, among other doubtful practices. Any person, citizen and non-citizen alike, who appears to be an immigrant by virtue of appearance or other identifying criteria is open to on the street interrogation& by police officers to determine their legal status.  President Obama called the law “misguided”  Homeland Security Secretary and former Democratic… Continue

Supreme Court decision puts democracy on sale

Last week five Supreme Court Justices stabbed at the heart of democracy, our electoral system. They overturned more than 100 years of statute and precedent and declared that corporations can spend all the money they want to buy elections.

In fact, these five men in robes declared, corporations have a constitutional right to do so. The court's ruling reinforces the…

Walk for Health Care Reform

On Saturday, August 29th, a “Walk for Health Care Reform” was held in our own Sonoma Plaza. The Index-Tribune reported that some 250-300 supporters were in attendance. With the generous help and contributions of Sonoma residents, the peaceful walk, discussions, and picnic that followed made for a warm, joyful, and uniquely Sonoma event.

We’re pleased to announce that $700 was raised at the rally to benefit the Sonoma Valley Community Health Center, and the excess food from the picnic…

Senator Mark Leno Spoke to Local Democrats

On Thursday April 16th, we hosted State Senator Mark Leno for a briefing on the May 19th ballot propositions, and California's dire fiscal situation.  As a compromise of the budget stalemate, the ballot propositions act as an alternative that would redirect funds to fill the spending gap.  Senator Leno supports all of the propositions, recognizing that the situation is not ideal, but are all essential.

Spiritual Stalinism

For Robert Service (1)

(Debt Acknowledged)

I live the song of letting go,

Allowing the mind to out-flow

Until there is no stream of thought

To catch like a clot in vein.

Here, there is no sane or insane.

Just the on-coming, brilliant light

Belonging to neither day or night

Known as the bleeding away of pain.

The eyes fly above the body,

Painted in the cleanest shroud;

The eyes watch the… Continue

09/09/09 Meeting to hear President Obama deliver the "truth" speech about Health Care.

09/09/09

Tonight we sat and had food at The Round Table, which is a misnomer since the tables were long and rectangular.

And after we ate and listened to each other, we turned on the television and watched and heard, "Give 'em hell, Barry," tell the Republicans the truth about the Health Care bill which he wants adopted by Congress.

So much truth made the Republicans feel as if they were in hell.

You can watch the videos of the speech by clicking ...… Continue
